Obergurgl is a village in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol, Austria, in the municipality of Sölden, in the district of Imst. It is located at an altitude 1907 m above sea level, and is surrounded by Tyrol's highest mountains. Obergurgl forms part of the ski resort area of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl and lies at the southern end of the Ötztal Gurglertal valley.The Alpine holiday resort of Obergurgl is called the “diamond of the Alps”.On May 27, 1931 here was forced to land the famous explorer Auguste Piccard after the establishment of a new altitude record with the balloon at Gurgler Furthermore, he had to spend a night in herel before it was salvaged from Obergurgl.
The Hohe Mut is located at 2,670 m and is one of Tirol's most breathtaking points overlooking no less than 21 mountains higher than 3,000 m. A ride with the new Hohe Mut gondola makes a truly unforgettable experience, offering stunning views of the Alpine scenery. Today there are in Gurgl over 4000 guest beds, and around 85,000 guests are hosted annually. Obergurgl and Hochgurgl have an extensive ski area with 24 lifts and 110 kilometers of slopes. |
