Kaprun is a municipality in the Zell am See District in the state of Salzburg. The town is an important tourist destination known as "Zell am See-Kaprun" with the neighbouring Zell am See and well known for the glacier Kitzsteinhorn.It is located in the Pinzgau region , at an altitude of 786 m,on the northern slopes of the Alpine Glockner Group with Mt. Großes Wiesbachhorn, 3,564 m (11,693 ft), part of the Hohe Tauern range forming the border of Salzburg with Carinthia, at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.The Kitzsteinhorn is a mountain in the High Tauern range of the Central Eastern Alps in Austria. It is part of the Glockner Group and reaches a height of 3,203 m. It is located north of the Alpine crest within the municipal area of Kaprun The Kitzsteinhorn is accessed by the Gletscherbahn 1, an aerial lift in three sections, opened in 1965 to develop the area for glacier skiing. The lowest section, running from Kapruner Thoerl up to the Salzburg Hut, is 2028 metres long and climbs 970 metres in altitude. The second section, to the Krefeld Hut, climbs 554 metres. The third section, from the Krefeld Hut, is 2192 metres long and climbs 575 metres. This section includes the world's tallest aerial lift pylon, a steel framework construction 113.9 metres (originally 106 meters) high. with a diameter of 2.2 m. There is a restaurant and a panoramic terrace on the roof of the upper station, at 3,029 m If you are in Kaprun, remember to visit the Kitzsteinhorn - Salzburg's only glacier ski area at an altitude of 3,203 m and Summit World 3000, Salzburg's highest lookout platform.
Kaprun is also famous for its hydroelectric power plants. The high-mountain reservoirs at around 2,000 m above sea level are most popular attraction for visitors.
Zell am See is the capital of the Zell am See District in the Austrian state of Salzburg. The town is an important tourist destination known as Zell am See-Kaprun and is a transportation hub for the region. |
