Ischgl is a municipality in the Landeck district, Tyrol.Ischgl is situated at an altitude of 1377 m in the Paznaun valley, between the Silvretta and the Verwallgruppe.The Paznaun is a valley in Tyrol, Austria, leading south-west from Pians (856 m) to the Bielerhöhe (2071 m). The main villages in the Paznaun valley are See (1050m), Kappl (1226m), Ischgl (1377m) and Galtür (1586m). Today, the main economic activity in the valley is tourism. Each of the main villages has its own ski resort with the resort of Ischgl being the most prominent one.
The former mining village (Yscla, Romansh for "island") was populated by Romans from the Engadine some 1000 years ago and by the Walsers in the 13th century. Ischgl is one of Austria's top 5 ski resorts.Ischgl was known for its skiing area - the Silvretta Arena - which links the village with the Swiss Samnaun. It is one of the largest with 238 km of slopes and 45 lifts and is also one of the most snow-sure ski areas in the Alps.It has reached during time a great popularity through top-class events: open air concerts staged at the 2400 metre high Idalp create an unforgettable atmosphere.The opening of the season and the end of the season, are celebrated with big pop concerts, international stars of the music industry are on the stage at the Top of the Mountain Concerts. Ischgl's character is characterized by the highest density of four-star hotels in Austria.
It is a place where the fun of practicing adventurous sports mix with the after-ski parties. It is perfect for couples, or singles because it is a place of great popularity, so you won't find peace and quiet, but a lot of people waiting to socialize. |
