Take your time and enjoy a remarkable Mediterranean seascape belonging to the Pearl of France, Menton. As you are looking at the whole picture, you may discover the port of Menton, with a tradition in fishing for hundreds of years. Additionally, in the back you will find the basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange, bathing in the sunrays, standing proud since the 17th century as a witness of France’s most important historical events.
As you climb its majestic staircases from the seaside, you will find yourself overwhelmed by the architecture built in the Baroque style. The picture is completed by the immensity of the Mediterranean Sea.
Because of its unique microclimate, similar to the hot-summer Mediterranean one, Menton is considered to be perfect for growing lemon, orange as well as tangerine trees. That is why the lemon has become one of the town’s symbols. The locals even organize each February a festival dedicated to its citric delights, La Fete du Citron, where they decorate the town center with lemons and oranges.
From lemons to impressive buildings, astonishing seascapes and warm weather, Menton has a lot to offer and is considered one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Alpes-Maritimes. Now you might guess why it is nicknamed “The Pearl of France”…
