Železná Ruda (literally "iron ore", German: Markt Eisenstein) is a town in the Pilsen Region of the Czech Republic.The Železná Ruda (Eisenstein market in German ) is located in the Sumava National Park at an altitude of 750 m above sea level and is one of the sports and tourist centers of the Bohemian Forest.It is located in a narrow area of two and a half kilometers away from Eisenstein Bavarian town on the other side of the border between the Czech Republic and Germany. In the Middle Ages it was a market town.Šumava and in German as Böhmerwald, is a low mountain range in Central Europe. Geographically, the mountains extend from Plzeň Region and South Bohemia in the Czech Republic to Austria and Bavaria in Germany.
Železná Ruda is one of the most popular skiing centres of Šumava and the starting point for many hiking trips on both sides of the border.The most popular tourist destinations are the Black Lake- the largest and deepest natural lake in the Czech Republic., Devil´s Lake, Laka Lake and many more. These destinations can be enjoyed on foot or on a bike. In summer an eco bus is in operation which will take you from Špičák to various places in the National Park. |
