De Haan (French: Le Coq, also Le-Coq-sur-Mer) is a municipality located on the Belgian North Sea coast in the Belgian province of West Flanders.
The village of De Haan has maintained a low skyline, so the most preponderant buildings are in the "Belle Epoque"style. Its most famous resident was Albert Einstein who used to live in the "Savoyarde" villa for eight months, after escaping Nazi Germany in 1933. The only golf course of the country is in De Haan and was built by King Leopold II in 1903.With its small cabins bits and pieces, the longest beach on the Belgian coast (12 km), Le Coq is the prototype of the popular resort. It is bordered by a chain of dunes, including that of Wenduine, the second highest in the country.De Haan has stations on The Coast Tram.The Coast Tram (Dutch: Kusttram) is a public transport connecting the cities and towns along the entire Belgian (West Flanders) coast, between De Panne near the French border and Knokke-Heist.
